A Message from Our President
Thank you for visiting the Junior League of Richardson (JLR)
website! Our website gives the public a
glimpse on how JLR serves its community through our projects, fundraisers and
membership opportunities.
The Junior League of Richardson has been serving the
Richardson community since its inception in 1966 as the Richardson Service
League. In 1980, the Richardson Service
League was admitted to the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI),
and we are now partnered with 293 Leagues with over 160,000 members in the
United States, Canada, Mexico and Great Britain. AJLI reaches out to women of all races,
religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to
voluntarism.
Junior League of Richardson’s motto is “growth in service to
the community” and our current community projects reflect all groups and ages
in Richardson. Our signature projects
include a partnership with the City of Richardson and Methodist Richardson
Medical Center at the City’s Free Children’s Vaccination Clinic, and provide
upkeep and tours to one of Richardson’s oldest homes, Miss Belle’s House. Other community projects include the
Richardson Adult Literacy Center, Santa’s Village, Visiting Nurses Association
(VNA) Holiday Gift Wrap, NETWORK Holiday Food Baskets, Senior Center Mardi Gras
Party, City of Richardson Trash Bash, and Kids in the Kitchen (an AJLI program
promoting healthy eating habits in children) and many more! We also provide a scholarship to a graduating
high school senior who also serves their community through volunteering (The
Holwerda-Kimzey Scholarship) and a Valentine art contest at Dobie Elementary. We support our wonderful community projects
though fundraisers like our annual Eggstravaganza and The City of Richardson’s
Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival.
We welcome all women in Richardson and the surrounding areas
to become members of our League! We are
a small League compared to our neighboring Leagues, but we create lasting
friendships through our love of helping the Richardson community. We have provisional classes forming in the
fall and spring, and if you are interested in becoming a member, please use the
contact us section on the website.
I am honored and excited to serve as President of the Junior
League of Richardson for the 2011-2012 year!
I have loved my volunteer experiences in League, and have met so many
wonderful women that I am proud to call lifelong friends! I also have learned so much about the
Richardson community and I have Junior League of Richardson to thank for those
opportunities! I invite all women to do the same as we continue to grow as a
League!
Michelle Mann
President, 2011-2012
